iOS16 Messages Junk and Filters

iPhone and iPAD OS 16 Messages filter

Filter Messages on iPhone and iPad OS 16

The recently released v.16.x upgrade for your iPhone and iPad introduced some new features. One of them allows the user to delete and mark messages as spam.

You can read more about the exiting new features in my earlier news letter and blog post. There are three more functions that have been added to Messages in iOS16 and iPAD 16 that are also very useful.

  1. Mark as unread

  2. Delete and report as Junk

  3. Filters

Mark as unread

This is very handy if we don’t want to forget to reply or follow up on a message. We can now mark a message as “unread” by swiping to the right.

Delete and report as Junk

Unfortunately we have seen an increase in SPAM messages. Simply swipe to the left to just delete the message or delete and report as junk.

Filters

Allows you to filter for "All - Known - Unknown - Unread and Recently Deleted" messages. The last option for Recently Deleted is very helpful to retrieve a message that you accidentally marked as "Junk."

To enable the Messages filter, do the following:

  1. Open SETTINGS on your iPhone or iPad

  2. Enable “MESSAGE FILTERING” (located near the end of the list)

  3. You will then see the “Filters” option in the upper left corner of the Messages app.
