Sharing pictures and videos with friends and family without putting it on social media.

In Mac Photos application

  1. Add a shared photo album by clicking on the “+” that appears when you hover over “Shared Albums”

  2. Drag and drop images and videos from your Library to this new photos album

  3. Share the album by clicking on the send icon in the menu bar

  4. Friends and Family with iCloud accounts

  5. Invite friends and family who have an iCloud account by clicking on the “+”

  6. Check the box whether or not Subscribers can add photos and videos

  7. Check the box whether or not you want to receive notifications

Sharing non-iCloud subscribers

  1. Check the box to create a public website

  2. After a few seconds iCloud will generate a unique URL you can share

Privacy

Of course the moment you share digital content you loose control. Using iCloud will prevent your content being indexed by search engines like Google and therefore accessible to uninvited 3rd parties. And you can always limit access to this shared iCloud album. More importantly, unlike other social media websites Apple is not in the business of harvesting and selling information about you and the people you connect with.

Cost

It’s still irks me a bit that Apple hasn’t increased the amount of free iCloud space that comes with every account. Given the cost of an iPhone it would be nice if they would match the internal storage space of your iPhone. There are many advantages of paying for some extra storage on iCloud and in my opinion well worth the cost.
